Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways that people and organizations can support the work of Hartford's Camp Courant during the year:

Wish List

Camp Courant publishes a wish list with items that are needed for our summer program or for special events.  View our current wish list, or contact us with ideas you may have about items or services we can use to enhance our programs.

Camp Courant Clean Up Day

Camp Clean Up Day is usually held on a Thursday in June (with a “rain date” just in case).  The day begins at 10 am and ends at 3 pm.  Volunteers can come for an hour or two (or longer) to help out.  Typical tasks are sweeping and raking, dusting and surface cleaning in the pavilions, spreading mulch and chips in the playground, power washing and clearing the main hiking trail.

Summer Camp Programs

Camp Courant is always looking for volunteers (18 and over) to work with our campers to:

  • Work with a selected group of campers to prepare and produce our camper newsletter.
  • Share time with a group of children in our early learning center to read a story and talk.  This type of social interaction is a positive way to have a direct impact on a child.
  • Teach financial literacy to children with age appropriate curriculum.
  • Help staff in Arts & Crafts, Computer Lab, Early Learning Center, etc.
  • Be a Trail Captain and adopt the Camp's hiking trail for development and maintenance.

Volunteer Readers

Volunteer readers are needed for our early learning program during the camp season.  Share your lunch hour with a child to read a story and talk.  This type of social interaction is a positive way to have a direct impact on a child.

Service with a Clear Purpose

If you are looking for a way to give back to the community and a chance to meet some of the most dynamic and interesting people in Hartford County, Camp Courant has openings on its board of directors.

If you are interested in donating an item from our wish list, volunteering at camp during the summer or would like to explore serving on the board or directors, contact Beth Gibbs at bgibbs@campcourant.org or call (860) 241-3674.

Donor Appreciation Committee

Do you like to talk to people?  If you do, here’s a Volunteer Opportunity for you that will fit into your schedule, your time and your lifestyle!  All you will be asked to do is say, “Thank You.”  You simply make 5-10 calls a month to thank folks who have contributed money to camp.  We will provide you with a short 15 minute introduction and overview of the process, lists, contact information and scripts for handling “live” calls or answering machines.

Special Events

Camp Courant is looking for volunteers for our special events to help set up, work specific tasks or serve on the committees.   We have several events throughout the year, including The Buddy Breakfast, The Camp Courant Classic Golf Tournament, The Camp Courant Telethon, and The Buddy Bash, all of which require volunteers to run smoothly.

If you’re interested in joining the donor appreciation committee or volunteering for a special event, contact Lisa M. Curran at lcurran@campcourant.org or call (860) 241-3750.
